Forest School
Here at Blarney Street , we run Forest School Programmes in a nearby wooded area. Forest School is an internationally-recognised educational approach to outdoor play and learning. It recognises the importance of nature-based play and is based on long-term access to a natural environment. It offers all learners regular opportunities to achieve and develop confidence and self-esteem through hands-on learning experiences in a woodland or natural environment with trees.

In line with Forest School principles, our programme is run by teachers in our school who are trained and fully qualified Forest School Practitioners.
These are examples of some of the things we do at Forest School:
✳ We open and close each session with a circle where the leaders and children all have the opportunity to speak.
✳ We sing songs, tell stories and role-play.
✳ We play structured games that develop language, listening, use our senses, increase bodily awareness and knowledge of nature.
✳ We observe the surroundings, explore and investigate, notice changing seasons, name plants and animals and create connections to the natural landscape.
✳We facilitate lots of free play where activities are available to promote greater resilience, risk-taking at appropriate levels, communication, friendship building, physical skills, imagination, language development and much more!
✳ We make crafts using tools that require responsible behaviour and close attention.
It’s a whole lot of fun and a whole lot of learning!
